🤯 God must be playing a trick on me!!! 😕

You can always tell when people look in the mirror way too much, and that they love what they see every single time - in a really weird, vain, almost unnatural way. Like they think to themselves: “good god, my eyes are dazzling AF; or “damn I’ve got such an amazing smile, who wouldn’t love me?”; or “you think my cheeks are rosy, wait till you see my other cheeks; and be sure to plant your lips on them at least once while you are back there will ya?”; or “man I look like Jesus, I’m even a pretty decent guy who likes hookers too. I too even wear dirty women’s night gowns to night clubs sometimes like Kanye West – man I’m so cool”; or “I wonder if they notice how much I look like a new and improved Marilyn Monroe”; or “man! I look so mysterious and deep, good god I’m handsome”; or “look at my smile, so soft and gentle; love me, love me, love me, please”. I’m sure you are thinking to yourself, those seemed awfully specific right? And you’re totally right. Now try not to label me a total asshole when I tell you who those people are, and bear in mind that those things that were written were just the products of a comedic mind casually strutting its stuff to see if it’s still got it – it does by the way, if I may say so myself. And bear in mind, I don’t think it’s bad to look in the mirror, in fact it’s really good for you. I however try to do it only twice a day – once in the morning when I wake up and again at night right before I turn on the red light in the master bedroom and things get, err, a little too freaky to discuss here (wink, wink). Let’s talk about it on Twitter before Jeff Bezos pulls out 😊 – did you get that? Pulls out? He-he-he. If you ask me, I think the deal was the equivalent of a sizable object in an unsuspecting butt hole, but what do I know about business and finance, and who cares what I think, right? And by the way I plant a big wet kiss on my lips every time I look in the mirror, I don't just do it for fun or to see if I'm still hot 😀.

Anyway, where were we? Ah yes, those statements that I came up with; to describe 7 different individuals who, for comedy’s sake I assumed look in the mirror too often, and more than 5 times a day in fact – I’m not saying they do and I don't know these guys personally, let’s just have fun with it okay? I read an article on Music Week a while back and the headline was “Universal Music Australia unveils senior execs as John O’Donnell confirms retirement”. I’m sure you can easily highlight the headline and find the article on Google, but to make things easier for you I’ve added a link to the title that opens in a new window, again for your convenience, ‘cos you are so special. I wouldn’t even fart while writing this if I had to, in order not to cause your awesome vibes to shift even the slightest bit in any direction whatsoever, whether you like smelling peoples’ farts or not (I’m sure you don’t obviously, you’re not weird at all) - that’s how awesome I think you are. Can you match any of those faces to any of the statements I mentioned above? Who do you think has the really big, rosy cheeks and wants you to plant your lips on them? He-he-he. Tweet me on Twitter (@skunkradiolive) and I might tell you which one belongs to which one so you can have one of those tinnie winnie wins that are all the makings of a really good day.

Anyway, let’s get right down to this song. I'm totally certain that you’d really want to plant your lips on it when it’s done playing. But don’t kiss your phone screen, it’s full of germs. Wipe it with an antibacterial wipe first and then once again after like they do in church when they kiss the crucifix on Good Friday; then get your friend to kiss it too. By the way, if you were Catholic, what part of the cross would you kiss? 🤔. Again, you can tweet me @SkunkRadioLive.

This is one of those records that gives ten times as much as it takes from you in minutes and seconds. In fact it even saves you time by telling you exactly what song to play next or add next to your playlist – it. Yep, this is another one of those songs that has no chaser, anything that comes after it will be shite! as far as you’re concerned. To be honest, I’ve got it on repeat now and I really don’t know where to go from here, except to stop the music player. But wait YouTube has no stop button, and neither does Spotify. Aaaarghhh!!!! I’m totally losing it now?!

Wait… (“deep breaths, deep breaths”).

Okay I’m good now. (“Phew”).

See? That’s what this song will totally do to you. Consider that your first warning. The second warning I’ll give you is that the instant you hit the play button, YouTube will totally change it’s attitude towards you and create a new mental picture of you, a new improved one. Kind of like moving someone from one of the boxes in your head where you put people based on their character traits, behaviours, what they smoke, how ambitious they are, how serious they are, how hot (or not) they are, how big their willies (oops!! wallets are or could potentially be), or other criteria. Wait, am I the only one who does that? Is that wrong? I hate that I just told you that. Sh!! Don’t tell anyone okay? Would you like to know what box you are in inside my head right now? Of course you do – you are in the "Box 47". Trust me that’s the coolest box, it means I totally don't hate you and we could be friends some day. But don't ever try to kiss me okay? I totally hate that.

But back to the song… my only advise for you as you make this journey to becoming a seasoned, highly sophisticated, professional hip hop fan is buckle up. If you smoke, roll one of those giant ones Snoop and Eminem shared at the VMAs 😊, but make sure you don’t finish it all in one go. Alright, hit the play button.

Have a wonderful day. ✌

Let's do it

Featured on South Korean duo, Love X Stereo’s highly acclaimed “37B” album, “Turn It Up” is a soft, tender, feel-good record with a commanding bass line that’ll make you feel like you are a maestro, and you are about to do what you do and make it look really easy. The vocal performance is like a gentle breeze on a warm summer day, and more arousing than body heat on a cosy winter evening with someone special. The lyrics evoke sensual, intimate feelings; as if themed around a passionate late night encounter between two lovers.  “Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up; the volume of the night”.

Feels so good

Coolidge has been making a lot of good noise this year. From critically acclaimed solo records like “Faint Rose“ and “Lazy Anthem“, to collaborative hit singles like “KVNG“ and “About Me“, the fast-rising Mississippi hip hop star is showing that it is possible to gain mass appeal as an underground artist without necessarily conforming to any set trends; in fact, he is proving that underground hip hop artists can still set new trends in today's music industry, as he has done for several years now with various cutting edge vocal performance and production styles that are still unique several years on. Released on the 10th of August, the new track, a collaborative project with fellow Mississippi, US underground rapper, 2Verse features an infectious bounce, a super laid-back vibe and a piano melody that will take you to ecstasy.

Kiss it better

There is a song for every moment, this one is for when you are looking back at these dire times tomorrow and wondering how you got through them. Released on the 14th of August, Canadian singer songwriter, Crissi Cochrane’s pandemic-inspired single will take you on a musical journey back in time to much simpler times. It’ll melt your heart like an ice cream cone on a hot summer day and kiss your sorrows away like a loving mother. Covid-19 is a dirty word that no one wants to hear anymore, but this song is one you’ll want to hear over and over and over until the pandemic is over, and then some more so it never comes back. Don’t worry, there are no dirty words in it. Stay safe.

You'll never get your cocks in our asses - they don't eat chicken

Saturday night at the office, what could possibly go wrong?

The part after the hyphen was added for the sake of sensitive people out there who like to beat around the bush. It may also help this article get published and keep someone from losing their job. As in the old African saying - "your shit came up today" (i.e. after you thought you had flushed it down the toilet), there comes a time in life when the truth must surface and be spoken. When things that people are thinking but not saying finally get said, no matter how hard it may be to say or how touchy the subject is. So here it goes -

" ... "

Oh wait, it's already been said. Didn't you read the caption?

Hit the play button and let's never speak of it again. If you didn't get the point this is probably not your part of the show, move along now.

JK. We love the gays, but we like our hip hop REALLY, REALLY HARD and our pop music completely separate. We don't like it sexy and exciting - not to mention happy. We are not fans of rappers who wear pink, or flowery shirts, no matter how macho they think they are - even if they are on holiday. But enough about us. It's Saturday night, turn your speakers up loud and make sure the neighbours come knocking. "Uberman Returns" is back for the third time. If you missed it the first two times, don't worry, no track has been removed, tracks have only been added. Last time the music video playlist was updated we had to water it down with a little R&B because it had gotten too hardcore, but looks like we overdid it - so we've overcompensated and added some really ruff stuff - so hardcore it had to be misspelled. If you are not familiar with "Uberman Returns", it's simply a playlist that reminds listeners to get an Uber, Addison Lee (f* Uber), or public transport (nah, f* that too), maybe just a regular London taxi or black cab, when they are out drinking and sampling all types of drugs. It's safer, and you won't end up in a jail cell on Sunday morning with a hefty biker in really sexy bottomless pants braiding your hair and blowing softly in your ear. As you can tell, it's going to be hell'a explicit. 🤘

Hold your head

If listening to music is your favourite pastime then the last thing you want to do is hear the same song over and over again by different artists who all sound alike in one way or the other yet somehow pride themselves on being different. Sure there are still artists that really stand out and really take their time to make meaningful records like Kendrick Lamar and a few others but the choices seem to be getting more limited with every new release. Versatility is one of the main qualities that was key if a rapper wanted to make it into the mainstream back in the day and still is today. In fact it is key for every genre. But it doesn’t mean just making songs song with artists and bands in any genre all willy-nilly for a little bit of radio airplay or commercial success, it means being able to rap about a broad range of subject matters in different contexts with different performance styles so that crossing over could happen naturally, not just because your A&R has good connections. While rap music started out as a fun, edgy genre back in the ‘70s/‘80s when songs like “Rapper’s Delight” by The Sugarhill Gang were released, hip hop quickly took the style of vocal performance in a different direction and almost completely eliminated that fun, funky stuff. When hip hop was growing up, still fighting to get played on the radio and get sold in mainstream record stores, most hip hop was about hard times, killings, being a gangster, hustling, pimping, drugs and police but over the years we started to see other subject matters coming into the picture and the genre becoming more mainstream. But all that versatility seems to have disappeared once again and there now seems to be a new unspoken rule somewhere in new-school hip hop’s books that makes lyrics about big booty hoes, eating pussy, getting shot and going to jail; having a 100 tats; and every letter of the alphabet spelled out in diamonds on your teeth so you don't need to say a Damn thing; the top requirements for a writing a hit song and becoming a rap star. To cut a long story short, it’s getting boring, at least not unless you are a 13 year old boy who still has full size posters of Cardi B and Iggy Azalea under the bed with the mouth and other relevant holes cut out for when you are not out and about or in school trying to put you index finger to good use till it smells really exciting.

But enough about the current state of hip hop, it’s probably just a phase that will even itself out over time - hopefully not too long. In the meantime, here’s a masterfully written and exquisitely produced independent hip hop record by New Hampshire, US underground artist, Eyenine. Prepare to have your mind boggled with deep metaphors and sick flows like the ones you’ve either never heard before or miss so dearly. It sits in track position number 1 of his critically acclaimed debut album, “Insomnia Sessions” which is still trending in the world of underground hip hop several years since its release, and which set the tone for the illustrious independent music career he is enjoying today.

Amazing!

Sounds like love, feels like heaven.

When Wisconsin, US band, Ian And The Dream first stepped onto their local music scene in Milwaukee, USA no one had any doubts in their minds that they were going to be legends. They instantly became fan favorites with the release of their debut single, "That's What Kept My Heart Alive" which featured on their 2015 album, "Saturns Of Stars", and they went on to become Wisconsin's most highly revered indie band of all time. After several years of rocking the pants off almost every self-respecting live music venue, concert hall and music festival Wisconsin had to offer and dominating the Midwest's mainstream and independent music scenes, the band dropped off the radar suddenly, but not for long. They resurfaced under a new name with a brand new Beatlesque sound and made their debut again back in the summer with the release of the self-titled album, "The Last Bees". "Crusade" is one of several songs that really shocked and blew the socks off every single listener and had reviewers, DJs and radio hosts lost for words. If, like many pop music fans you miss the days when a song could literally brighten up your day and put a massive smile on your face (or you are a millennial and have probably never experienced it) then you are in for a musical treat you'll never forget. The record, much like the rest of the 6 track masterpiece is brighter than anything you could possibly have heard this decade - old school bright, so bright and lightweight you'll feel like a fat lady who just lost 300 pounds running through a yellow meadow against the wind somewhere on the countryside, in fantasy land of course. It's a record that will make you feel like the color yellow inside and outside. If you ever had a dream that came true on a bright, sunny day, you can best your last dollar out of the million you made that this is the tune that will be playing in your head - it's not about money, but it's so good you'll feel like a million bucks. As if that wasn't enough, it features the harmonica, one of the happiest musical instruments that ever lived.

So refreshing

She's been hailed as Brooklyn's new queen of hip hop, she's one of the hottest emerging rappers in New York right now, and one of the most talented multi-talented artists the region has seen in a very long time. Starting out as an R&B singer when she made her debut back in 2013 with the release of tracks like "My Photographer", "Living It Up" and "Pull 'Em Pants Up", singles which are still being talked about today, Tamara Bubble made her name on the East Coast's highly competitive emerging music scene as one of the top contenders to watch. She was one of most exciting new R&B artists in New York who not only still offered the original sounds of the genre but also offered a fresh new lyrical approach in terms of songwriting and vocal performance style. After dominating on the emerging R&B scene for a while she went on to introduce fans to her hip hop side and instantly shot to fame. In her new single, "Forgot Your Name" she re-introduced fans to her R&B side once again after a few years of predominantly releasing rap songs in a new record about love and relationships. "Forgot Your Name", the new record is being hailed as her best R&B record to date.

Sneaks up on your sweet spot like dark chocolate

Featured on Bristol, UK psychedelic rock sensation, Lunarians' debut album, "Lost Light Receiver", this record still receives praise today as one of the most infectious and authentic independent psychedelic rock releases out of the South West in a very long time. It's pacey, sweet - as the title suggests, yet dark and pensive with a rather ominous, disturbing and unsettling feel about it at the same time. It introduced fans to a sound that was and still is very rare in rock music today, and several years after its release critics still reference and rave about it every chance they get. It's particularly good because it is not one of those songs that aims to please, but it does so in so many ways. Bury your ears in this when you need a quick getaway from the mainstream's super happy stuff and need something seriously good that will get you thinking and then blow your brains out when you are not looking so you feel no more pain

Game changer

Although compact, Cj TheBest's elaborate, artistically masterful music repertoire is an exciting collection of original songs that is guaranteed to pose the same question in every R&B music lover's mind - what the hell happened to R&B?

With so many new styles emerging today, each one seemingly taking on a more R Kelly approach than the previous, and moving from more romantic and loving themes to what can only be described as "slap me on my ass and take me from behind", "pimps and hoes" scenarios, it could sometimes be difficult to find the right record when navigating the vast libraries of music services like Spotify, Tidal, Google Play Music and Apple Music in search of something descent or at least varied to listen to. Just over a decade ago we had artists like Alicia Keys, Trey Songz, Jeremih, Ne-Yo, Justin Timberlake and Robin Thicke singing love songs that gave fans a little hope but those days are gone apparently.

Cj made his debut back in 2012 with the release of this track. It took fans, A&R scouts, DJs and critics by surprise and brought his local R&B music scene to a stand still, making him one of the most closely watched independent artists in Austin, Texas, USA at the time and even up till this day. The track was featured on his first album, "The Best Album" which also featured other critically acclaimed singles like "Moves" and "Testing". It is still ranked as one of the most original independent R&B records out of the region this decade and still gets a lot of radio airplay and love from DJs just over 7 years after its release.

Free your mind

In 2017 independent Seoul duo, Love X Stereo set out to release 37 tracks spread out evenly over the course of the year. The project ultimately resulted in the release of the critically acclaimed albums, "37A" and "37B", which are not only ranked as their best records to date, even with their highly exceptional track record, but are also ranked as some of the most exciting and innovative independent electronic rock releases this decade. "A Revolution" was track number 12 out of 37 and featured on on "37B". It's adventurous, it's moderately pacey, and evokes a sense of newness and liberation. The '90s in the future

It sold out almost instantaneously on limited edition Cassette tape while it was still on pre-order and shot straight to the top of Bandcamp's best sellers list when it was officially released back in 2018. The song was released shortly after Megan announced that she would be pursuing a career as a singer after working behind the scenes as a very successful film and video game composer for years. "Hero" was the debut single that set the tone for what is now being described as one of the more rapidly progressing synthpop careers in the history of the genre. It's a record that's got '90s written all over it yet also somehow has a vaguely futuristic vibe about it. It's fast and exciting with lyrics about love and desire. It features Edinburgh, UK electronic music producer, Alex and was quickly followed by a full length album by the two titled "Hero".

Spectacular!

The official music video for "The Streets" was released on the 27th of May. The track was originally released back in 2018 when renowned San Francisco, US freelance music composer, Megan McDuffee stepped out from behind the scenes and found her voice. It's been pandemonium in the world of synthpop ever since. A new version of the record, "The Streets - Director's Cut" was released on the same day as the video. If you are the kind of music fan who likes music that takes you places, music that tells a story and music that makes you feel deeply, then this one's for you - in fact it'll be years before you even think about taking it off your pedestal. It is a music video that will set your bar for music videos so high you'll never watch MTV again. It will whisk you away to the future and do things to you creatively that'll make your toes curl. It's deeply exciting, excruciatingly satisfying and you'll probably watch it over and over again several times before you realize you're doing it too much.

If you into sci-fi, fantasy and superhero movies, watching this would be like sticking your willy in a light socket for the ultimate rush and then getting your brains splatted everywhere in ecstasy.

The world as it is

This loud, furious full-bodied record by Melbourne reggae band, Echo Drama attempts to recreate the madness and chaos going on around the world today - and it does so perfectly. It varies vastly in terms of performance styles - from machine gun rap flows and wild rock 'n' roll style instrumentation to slow singing, hip hop drums, short bursts of soul and graceful harmonies, sometimes all at the same time. It's featured on the 9 piece Australian outfit's latest album, "Before It All Ends" which was released to critical acclaim back in February.

"I"
Alternative

Released on the 7th of May, "I" is the first in a series of upcoming releases by San Francisco, US alternative music trio, The Controversy who will be releasing their 2019 album, "The World On Fire" one song at a time every month till the end of the year. The single has been as well-received as it was highly anticipated, if not more. It showcases the band's signature blend of alternative rock and '90s electronica in a whole new light - 10 times more vibrant, more complex and more adventurous. It's groovy and exciting and is poised to be a 2019 club hit.
