Smooth, sensual, and infused with so much love you'll need someone to hold once it's over, “Like A Lady” is a record that, like most of the songs in Crissi Cochrane’s repertoire, offers a sound and overall vibe that is very much lacking in today’s music. The gods must be crazy

Released on the 29th of February, “Heirloom” is Ontario singer songwriter Crissi Cochrane’s fourth album. It's her first album since becoming a household name in Windsor where she is from and one of the most celebrated independent musicians in Canada after “Pretty Words” from her third album went viral on Spotify and YouTube back in 2014. The first thing you need to know about this album is that it’s about as elegant as an elephant’s tusk. Wait what? An elephant’s tusk? Yep, the album is so good you’ll be talking gibberish after the first few songs. By the end of it you’ll feel so good baby pandas will be getting in line to cuddle you. If you never thought of an elephant’s tusk as being elegant, take a look at it from behind when the sun is shining just right, you've got 22 children back at the hut with 4 really angry baby mamas cooking their last batch of really stinky fish, a tranquilizer gun, and a queue of shady American business men with thousands of dollars to spend; and you’d be amazed what a little mud in all the right places could do for your psyche. But why the tagline then? Well, first of all, they are. Second of all, if you haven’t seen that movie you haven’t lived yet. Stop everything you are doing now and go and stream all three parts. If you haven’t soiled yourself laughing by the end of part one you need therapy for whatever it is you are going through in your life right now. But there’s no comedy in this album, and nothing funny about it either - it’s seriously good. The tagline just seemed appropriate at the time. Music fans have been through a lot over the past decade. So many highs, so many lows. So much music and so many new musicians, but very little has been amazing; good maybe, but not great. And then out of the blue, “Heirloom” – it’s better than great. To cut a long story short, this 11 track album could change your life. This could be a life-changing moment for you right here, and you deserve it. For starters, you are reading - nobody does that anymore, well at least not many. In fact, according to our in-house research, the chances of as little as even 50% of today's music fans reading a music review up to where you’ve read it so far are about as slim as an African model. Oops, was that too much?

Christmas is a time for sharing, a time to spend time with friends and loved ones, a time to relax and above all a time to get as far away from work or school or anything even remotely stressful as possible. It’s a time when you are most likely to see old relatives and old friends, both the ones you like and the ones you don’t, and hence a time to make peace, even if only for those special 24 hours. But Christmas songs are getting old, we hear them every single year and no matter how hard today’s music stars try they fail to capture the original magic and pure, unspoiled excitement, the innocence and the immense joy that the old ones offer, at least not without distorting it a little bit with their own vision of what Christmas should be or whatever disgusting fantasies they make have, and think we should too. Mariah Carey, George Michael, Justin Bieber, Destiny's Child, Ariana Grande, NSYNC, John Legend; they’ve all tried but no matter how great, there always seems to be something missing, too much added, or too much in common with the very songs we all need a break from whether we know it, like it or accept it, or not.

Ontario, Canada’s independent soul music star, Crissi Cochrane had a go at it in her critically acclaimed “Santa Baby” EP back in back in 2016 and completely nailed it, not just with this track, “What Do The Lonely Do At Christmas”, but also with the 2 other songs on the EP, which, to say the least, will give you butterflies. You know those songs so good they’ll make you say “ouch” and make you wish you could get inside your body and hold yourself real tight? Those songs that’ll make you feel like James Brown – so good you can just kiss yourself?

Yes, this track will do exactly that to you. Not only will you want nothing more than to wrap your arms tight around yourself and tell yourself everything’s going to be alright this Christmas, like you do when you feel like the whole world has turned against you or deserted you in your time of need; you’ll also feel like you died and went to heaven, and somehow managed to convince Jesus you were totally innocent - you'll feel a sense of absolution from all your worries, that's all that means - nobody knows what you did last Christmas, or if you've been good or bad all year (wink-wink).

How to breathe new life into a classic

It's very difficult and rarely ever possible for that matter, to take a magical song and make it even better years later, no matter how good the music producer is, how much more advanced studio gear is involved and most importantly, how much talent the performing artist may have or think they have, but when it does happen it's pretty darn spectacular - this is one of those spectacular, once in a lifetime moments in music, cherish it. Just canoodling
