The Controversy
"The World On Fire"
Alternative
Dangerously good
Released one song at a time starting with the sensational single, “I” on the 7th of May, 2019, California trio, The Controversy’s latest album did well to appease fans every step of the way of its unprecedented release, which spanned over 8 months in total. The full album was released to critical acclaim on the 3rd of December after every single track had received the full attention it deserved.
Co-produced by Dave Russell, whose credits include records with award-winning international music recording artists like Lady Gaga, PJ Harvey and Seal, it is one of those albums where every single record is a standalone hit single in its own right. The only way it could have been truly appreciated as exactly that is if each track was in fact released as a single, which the band cleverly did. It seemed like a pretty risky move at the time it was announced but it turned out to be one of the smartest moves the critically acclaimed Los Angeles band, whose repertoire dates as far back as 2012, could have made. In terms of highlights, well, there are none – every single record on this five-star album is a highlight. Right from the first song, “Oh Dear My”, you immediately know you are in for a monumental and phenomenal experience. The album instantaneously commands your full attention and you have no choice but to stop everything you are doing. 8 tracks and 34 minutes later, you’ll be holding your head as the title track, “World On Fire” whisks you away into outer space in ecstasy without any PPE or even your consent; almost like some really bad (or really amazing) drugs (or so we’ve heard - wink, wink).
