The Watermark High
"Ode To Winter"
Electronic
A-ya-yai! It's got to be illegal to feel this good
Released on the 20th of March to critical acclaim, “Ode To Winter” is the latest single by South African music producer, The Watermark High. The Watermark High adopted a new alias, Kinoh a few years back to work alongside his existing moniker. He aparrently did this to accommodate a different style of production and a new sound which he wanted to keep separate in order not to jeopardise any creative freedom in either project. The move led to a plethora of varied sounds, textures and timbres - some deeper, others more shallow; and some more complex, while others were much simpler. But above all they were all more excruciatingly satisfying. Naturally, every artist eventually peaks creatively and then releases music with a certain amount of consistency in terms of the levels of excitement and excellence one could expect, but with The Watermark High, contrary to what the moniker suggests, ironically, there seems to be no peak, at least not in the forseeable future. So before you hit the play button and subsequently tell yourself, “OMG, I’ll never hear anything this good again” and start to panic, take a few deep breaths. Now, forget about how much money people owe you, and how they've been avoiding you. Forget about how much you should be getting paid, and how your boss has a new chin or two everytime you see him. Forget about COVID-19 and what the world is going to be like in only a few weeks if not days. Forget about the fact that keeping 2 meters apart is the new norm and having sex doggy style is probably the only way humans will be able to protect themselves and their loved ones, which will ultimately lead to a new generation of doggie style babies much weirder than Millennials. Forget about the uncertainty everywhere and the massive holes looming in everyone’s pockets whether they’re rocking brand new jeans or their jeans are just really old and torn. Now imagine you can fly (and promise yourself you won’t pee on anybody while you’re doing it). And finally, ensure your speakers are cranked up, separated well, and form an equilateral triangle with your big ass head (if you didn’t know that was the best place to sit when listening to music, well, you do now). You are ready. This is going to feel, a little weird.
