Forget about how bad it was. Forget about how sad it was. Forget about all the unfortunate people who lost their lives or almost lost their lives (just for a very brief moment if you can), and all the simple pleasures and liberties of life that were taken away from every single one of us in a heartbeat... But wait, how could you? No one will be able to do so for a very long time, and even when the history books are written and those two pages – pandemic and lockdown, are stuck together by the pungent bodily fluids of all the teenage boys who should rightfully have lost their virginities and were in fact on the right track to doing so, 2020 will still be remembered as one of the most unprecedented years this century. So of course, it deserves its very own album - and it's got one.
In an era when mainstream musicians are failing to fully address social and political issues in their music, and opting to go the fantasy route and write about how good they’re living (and hence how much we and everyone else out here in the real world suck), it’s always refreshing to know that there are still artists out there who are writing real songs about real life and real people; like New Jersey, US singer songwriter Jim Gaven whose latest album “2020 Vision”, which was released on the 9th of January, is a concept album that touches on the events of 2020, including social and political issues, civil unrest, lockdown, the pandemic and everything in-between. Known for his uplifting feel-good songs about love and life, the new album skillfully combines a very bright uplifting feel and serious subject matters to create what can only be described as “blissfully somber”.
