"When You Give Love"
Pop
If you are one of those discerning music lovers that likes everything you listen to to mean something - one of those listeners that is quick to criticise anything that is nothing more than a few words and a few notes thrown together and overproduced no matter how amazing the end result is and how infectious it is - one of those who won't even listen to more than 5 seconds of a song before instantly coming to the conclusion that it is not what you want to hear, you are not on your own - at least not anymore. Today's music industry has become more vast than almost any other industry has ever been before. Just like almost every industry, which has seen a tenfold increase in competitors since the advent of the Internet and more recent technological advancements that are seeing high tech gear that was once only available to specially trained and skilled professionals fall into the hands of domestic users, amateurs, students and pretty much anyone who has the need for them, not to mention 4G, 5G and superfast Internet connections that mean we can access and deliver information from and to anywhere in the world with lightning speed using as little as a mobile phone, the music business has seen a massive increase in the number of new artists, bands and even indie record labels emerging to compete with the world's top acts and major record labels daily. Music fans have too much music to listen to so now standards have become inevitably high and artists who could get away with releasing mindless music only a few years back are not able to get away with it as easily nowadays. So the good news is that music is slowly but surely becoming better and better for discerning fans who know what they want, which now includes almost every music lover out there. Artists are also stepping their games up to meet this new demand for really good music, which always begins with amazing songwriting. This week on the SRL Networks Auditions we had the pleasure of discovering a singer and songwriter who is doing well to meet these new required standards that are being set by today's generation of music fans. She is Downie Streahl, from Michigan, USA. She released her latest project, an 8 track album called "Are You Ready" back in May. It's an album packed with carefully written and masterfully produced songs that are doing well to reassure fans and critics that artists are still putting in a lot of thought and hard work when creating, and not just fiddling around and recording whatever sticks. Among many records that did well to please fans and critics alike, "When You Give Love" was a song with the widest appeal. It's a slow, jazzy song about love and companionship. It features a very deeply moving piano-led instrumental performance, a very organic, live feel and a soft vocal performance that will make you feel like a little a child again, learning life's lessons through the literary art of storytelling. If you like songs that mean something and make you feel something - and obviously you you do since you've read this far, then you are in for a treat.
