"Paper Chase"
Hip Hop
Finally a rainy day, going to buy a Ferrari.
Summer, 2018 has been scorching throughout. Everyone's looking hot, everyone seems so pleasant, and everything seems all good. But everytime you take your good times to the next level you can't help but hear those voices in the back of your mind reminding you - "don't spend it all at once, save your money for a rainy day". Well, it's here, the first rain of Summer, 2018 in the UK couldn't have arrived at a better time to give us a much needed break from the sunshine we've craved for so long.
These may not have been the rainy days they meant but nevertheless you've decided it's time to go out and treat yourself to something nice. And here's the perfect song to play on the way. In fact, if you've long been advocating that hip hop and pop should remain just friends, this may very well be the treat you've been looking for.
This is one of those songs that could break your speakers, even if only with its essence. It's a hard banging track, with hard lyrics, a meaningful theme that is consistent all the way through, a true to life feel that is anthemic, memorable and even sweet in subtle ways. It aims not to massage your ego but to motivate. It aims not to overwhelm you but to inspire. It won't tell you you're nothing, like the average Drake or Jay Z (the new Jay Z) record, or almost every other rap record on the radio today, except maybe a few like some of Kendrick's. It's not cock hip hop and hence it's not about singing praises to the penis much like cock rock, the genre that started most of what is going on in hip hop today. And no, Debose won't pull it out and make you watch him count his money then accuse you of jealousy and envy just for looking.
If you've been looking for a Summer, 2018 anthem that not only speaks to your soul but speaks to your very essence - a track that will get you focused and keep you focused; a track you can be proud of listening to whether it's your baby who walks in, your girlfriend, your boss, or even your grandma; one that'll get you through the good times and the bad times as well; and most of all, a track that will do justice to and also validate your hip hop music playlists, and reset your ears from all the grumpy (Drake), caricature (Lil' Wayne), arrogant (Jay-z, but rightfully so), senseless (Kanye), disapointing (50 Cent), pornstar (Cardi B and everything in-between) hip pop you've had no choice but to listen to over the past decade - this is the one.
So let's get right down to it...
First of all this is not a 2018 hip hop track, it was released a few years back. It was way ahead of its time and still is. It's got a slow bounce with a sophisticated, "sitting on top of the world feel" that'll put you in the driver's seat of a freshly waxed Hummer sitting on wheels so big you can only see the top of other cars and the top of people's heads; clean bass that pulsates empathetically with puffy drums that hit ever so subtly but will make your woofers quiver; a serious beat that means business; a repetitive flow with lyrics centered around being a go-getter and that classic money over bitches attitude (more from 2pac's perspective, not in the way artists like Drake use it, and then turn around and make a whole album about girls); a memorable hook that means a lot to almost any adult male or female in the world, not just the artist; what more could anyone ask of a song?
This is the sound of diligence, dedication, dignity - the sound of hip hop - no complaining (Drake), no sweet fantasies, no bikini models, pool parties, none of that -
Seriously good hip hop - 100% Pop free guarantee.
Press play, feel the energy and take it all in. Now go on out there and be somebody.
Explicit.
